17/02/2012 (Agence Europe) - WTO/Doha Lamy does not want 2012 to be a wasted year. “The current political environment (Ed: spring presidential elections in France and in the autumn for the US) dictates that the most realistic and practical way forward is to move in small steps, gradually moving forward the parts of the Doha Round which are mature, and re-thinking those where greater differences remain”, suggested Pascal Lamy, addressing the WTO General Council on 14 February. Lamy, who heads the WTO, called on the chairs of all negotiating committees to informally consult at this stage in order to determine what each of their groups can do, step by step. He concluded by saying that “2012 cannot be a wasted year”. (EH/transl.jl)
