€200 million and 5 TEN-T priorities

Brussels, 10/01/2012 (Agence Europe) - The Executive Agency of the trans-European Transport Network starts work in 2012 and has announced €200 million for various transport projects and the intention to be flexible in allocation of the funds. A call for projects was published on Tuesday 10 January and will run until 13 April in order to complete the trans-European transport network (TEN-T) and prepare the ground for further developments along the lines of the proposals unveiled by the European Commission at the end lf the year. EU Transport Commissioner Siim Kallas, stressed that the funding would support the member states in carrying out complex projects to finish and fine-tune TEN-T and the EU funding would be of precious aid in this difficult time.

The agency is planning to be flexible in its allocation of the €200 million funding and has indicated that it is considering five priorities for the cash - promoting an integrated, multimodal system (€25 million), promoting the development of infrastructure to adjust to climate change (€35 million), speeding up and facilitating implementation of TEN-T projects (€100 million), supporting public-private partnerships and innovative funding (€15 million) and aiding the development of the TEN-T corridors (€25 million). An information day will be organised in Brussels on 31 January 2012 for potential candidates. (MD/transl.fl)
