Brussels, 01/12/2011 (Agence Europe) - The prime minister of the Tibetan central administration in exile, Lobsang Sangay, asked the European governments on Tuesday 29 November to make declarations stating their concern at the situation in Tibet and calling for China to revise the situation. International declarations on the situation in Tibet, such as the resolutions of the European Parliament, “help the people of Tibet, give them hope”, he stressed in a press conference at the European Parliament. “The occupation of Tibet is the main reason for the self-immolations of Tibetan monks, these are desperate acts. Perhaps they would abstain from committing these acts (if they felt they had the support of the international community)”, he explained. He added that since the declaration of the American Department of State on Tibet, no monks had committed self-immolation. (CG/transl.fl)
