Brussels, 30/11/2011 (Agence Europe) - The EU/United States Council on energy has had its first concrete result, with the agreement on the revised energy efficiency programme, Energy Star.
Meeting on the sidelines of the Transatlantic Economic Council (TEC) in Washington on 29 February, the EU/United States Council on energy initialled an agreement on using the revised version of the American government programme Energy Star, which promotes energy savings in the United States and is used in Canada, Australia and the EU, in the form of a label on various products which observe energy efficiency standards, such as computers and lighting.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Energy Secretary Steven Chu on the American side, and High Representative Catherine Ashton and Energy Commissioner Günther Oettinger for the Europeans, also agreed to continue their strategic dialogue on the global gas markets, including the role of non-conventional gas, such as shale gas, with the objective of exchanging information on regulatory aspects and best practice. The parties will also continue efforts to promote the highest levels of nuclear security and safety and the safety of offshore petro-gas activities. (EH/transl.fl)
