Jerzy Buzek supports membership talks

Brussels, 24/11/2011 (Agence Europe) - The president of the European Parliament, Jerzy Buzek, underlined on Wednesday 23d November that the European Parliament supports Turkey in its negotiations with the EU. “Turkey and the EU share the same history and the same destiny. Europe needs Turkey. Turkey needs Europe. I would like to reaffirm during my visit the European Parliament's strong support for Turkey's accession negotiations with the EU”, Buzek states in a press release.

Jerzy Buzek has been in Turkey since Thursday 24 November and will remain there until Friday 25 November. On Thursday, he met the president of Turkey's Grand National Assembly, Cemil Cicek, and the leaders of the four parties present in parliament. On Friday, he is due to meet President Abdullah Gül, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and representatives of the civil society, cultural personalities and think tank members. (CG/transl.jl)
