Füle wants results from talks with Kosovo

Brussels, 24/11/2011 (Agence Europe) - Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Füle pointed out on Thursday 24 November that the EU expects “tangible results” to come out of the discussions between Serbia and Kosovo. During his meeting with Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic that same day, the commissioner “emphasised the continuing expectation of the European Union that the dialogue will now be actively pursued, that it lead to tangible results by identifying practical solutions for the benefit of the people”, a press release states.

Noting the “recent steps in the implementation of agreements reached to date”, Füle trusts that further progress will follow swiftly and allow effective application of all the agreements “as soon as possible”. He said these steps are “essential in order for the Commission's recommendation to be positively received by member states in view of their decisions in December”, at the European Council to grant Serbia candidate status.

Both men also discussed questions pertaining to justice, freedom and security, mainly with regard to the fight against organised crime and corruption, for which the commissioner congratulated the Serb authorities for recent progress made. He encouraged them to step up their effort. He also spoke of the EU's expectations concerning the Serbian pre-electoral campaign, which is due to be managed “in a constructive and responsible manner, in line with Serbia's European aspirations”.
