24/11/2011 (Agence Europe) - France and the Czech Republic warned about failure to comply with EU renewable energy rules. On 24 November 2011, the European Commission sent France and the Czech Republic reasoned opinions (warning letters) to get them to ensure their legislation complies with EU Directive 2009/28/EC on promotion and use of renewable energy, which should have been transposed by 5 December 2010. Both countries are criticised for failing to fully transpose the rules for access to the grid and sustainability criteria for biofuel. They have two months to meet legal requirements, failing which they may be referred to the European Court of Justice. (EH/transl.fl)
