Brussels, 16/11/2011 (Agence Europe) - A minimum wage, equivalent to at least 60% of the average income of each member state, should be set in place within the EU. This, at least, is the wish of the European Parliament, expressed in its adoption, in Strasbourg on Tuesday 15 November, of the report on “the European Platform against poverty and social exclusion” by Frédéric Daerden (S&D, Belgium). The Parliament is calling on the European Commission to draft a legislative initiative to this end. The introduction of a minimum wage system in all member states of the EU was raised in a similar appeal in October 2010 in a resolution drafted by Ilda Figueiredo (GUE/NGL, Portugal). The rate this resolution selected was also 60%. (JK/transl.fl)
