16/11/2011 (Agence Europe) - CEER receives transparency accolade. The annual Florence Scholl of Regulation Energy Transparency Award to an institution or company for its particular contribution to the transparency of energy markets in Europe has, this year, been bestowed on the Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER). The award acknowledges the pro-active role of energy regulators along the whole legislative process of the REMIT directive on the integrity and transparency of wholesale markets, adopted by the Council on 10 October, following agreement with the European Parliament, said chairman of the selection committee Jorge Vasconcelos, a former head of the Portuguese regulatory authority and also of the ERGEG (European Regulators' Group for Electricity and Gas). “CEER initiated a close and productive dialogue with financial market regulators many years ago aimed at providing comprehensive and coherent supervision and regulation of all energy markets, physical and financial. Moreover, CEER has always asked the European institutions to set up appropriate EU wide market and price monitoring mechanisms”, he said, noting that it will be the responsibility of the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) to implement the REMIT regulation and make sure that the expected benefits materialise soon.
