Preparing for European Council and cohesion package

Brussels, 07/10/2011 (Agence Europe) - At a working breakfast to be held on the morning of Tuesday 11 October in Luxembourg, the European ministers will meet President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy to take stock of preparations for the October meeting of the European Council.

The Council will examine the draft conclusions of the European Council (Brussels, 17 October), for which the agenda is currently as follows: - economic policy (with a view to reinforcing competitiveness and growth); - the G20 (EU's position ahead of the G20 to be held in Cannes on 3-4 November); - climate change (EU's position ahead of the United Nations conference to be held in Durban from 28 November to 9 December). A meeting of the heads of state or government of the eurozone countries will take place on 18 October.

The sixth G20 summit will tackle the following questions: coordination of economic policies, framework for growth (to remedy macroeconomic imbalances), reform of the financial rules, reform of the international monetary system, volatility of raw materials prices, other subjects (food security, global governance, development cooperation, trade, corruption, employment and energy).

The Commission will present its proposals for the cohesion package 2004-2020 (structural funds, cohesion fund, etc). (LC/transl.fl)
