Brussels, 28/09/2011 (Agence Europe) - Talks between Serbia and Kosovo, which have been taking place under the auspices of the EU, were suspended on Wednesday 28 September. The meeting originally scheduled to take place in Brussels on Tuesday 28, then pushed back until Wednesday, “did not take place because the Serb delegation was not ready to proceed with discussions today”, said European mediator Robert Cooper in a press release. He stated that “the dialogue will continue when the Serbian side is ready to re-engage”. According to a diplomatic source quoted by AFP, the Serbs wanted to discuss the violence at a border post in the north of Kosovo. “The situation at the gates … is not part of the dialogue, nor the subject of any separate negotiations with Serbia”, Cooper said. The meeting was due to focus on energy, telecommunications, Kosovo's involvement in regional bodies and implementation of previous agreements. “The purpose of the process remains to discuss issues that are aimed at improving the lives of people and bring the parties closer to the EU”, Cooper noted.
