20/09/2011 (Agence Europe) - Costa Rica calls for greater flexibility. “Without the Doha Round, many of us will lose, particularly countries with small markets and with little capacity to export and attract investment”, Costa Rica President Laura Chinchilla Miranda hammered out as the public WTO forum opened in Geneva on 19 September. Although, speaking through the Commission and Parliament, the EU reaffirmed last week that it was committed to completing the Doha Round with an ambitious agreement that meets the needs of developing countries (see EUROPE 10452), the United States has poured cold water on the hope of seeing the deadlock in talks swiftly broken. Talks have been at a standstill since summer 2008 (see EUROPE 10454). (EH/transl.jl)
