Brussels, 05/09/2011 (Agence Europe) - More than 1,500 young volunteers from all over Europe are meeting in Brussels this week (7-11 September) at the European Parliament, for the second youth convention on volunteering. With the slogan “Young Volunteers Stand Up!”, these young people will discuss volunteers' rights and take part in around 100 interactive workshops. This is the largest civil society event, held as part of the European Year of Volunteering 2011, with the support of the European Parliament and the Economic and Social Committee. Over the course of the convention, 80 youth organisations and youth partners will build a “Volunteering Village” on the esplanade of the European Parliament, which will be inaugurated on 8 September by Princess Mathilde of Belgium and Isabelle Durant, a member and vice-president of the Parliament. The convention will also include a conference of the stakeholders, which will discuss a charter on the rights and responsibilities of volunteers. Lastly, 100 Chinese volunteers will get involved in the “Volunteer Bridge”, as part of the China-European Year of Youth 2011. (I.L./transl.fl)
