Brussels, 04/08/2011 (Agence Europe) - The companies T3 Technologies, Turbo Hercules and Naon Enterprise Software, which had attacked IBM before the European Commission for abuse of dominant position in the mainframe sector, have withdrawn their complaints. The reasons for their withdrawal is not yet known and neither IBM nor the European Commission have commented on the subject but it is highly likely that the companies in question have found an agreement with the US group.
On 26 July 2010, the Commission had triggered two separate formal inquiries against IBM (see EUROPE 10188): - one, following complaints of T3 and Turbo Hercules emulation software designers, who reproached the US group for linking material for mainframes to its own server exploitation system; - and the other, of its own initiative, as the European executive suspected the US group of locking mainframe market services by restricting or delaying access to spare parts of which IBM is the only provider.
Now that the three complaints have been withdrawn, it is up to the Commission to decide whether or not to continue its investigations. (F.G./transl.jl)
