Brussels, 04/08/2011 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 4 August, the European Commission announced the addition of three more designations for agricultural and food products to the list of protected designations of origin (PDO) and protected geographical indications (PGI). For France, the products in question are “Boeuf de Vendée” (PGI) and “Porc d'Auvergne” (PGI). For Greece, there is “Xigalo Siteias” (PDO), a Greek cheese based on goat or ewe's milk, or a mixture of the two.
The three new designations are therefore added to a list of over 1,000 products already protected by legislation on the protection of geographical indications, names of origin and traditional specialties. Information on quality products and on the list of protected names is available at: http://www.ec.europa.eu/agriculture/quality/schemes/index_en.htm ). (L.C./transl.jl)
