08/07/2011 (Agence Europe) - Inter-generational solidarity. Keeping people of advancing age in activity, improving their social inclusion and doing away with the barriers between generations - those are the themes at the heart of the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations 2012. On Thursday 7 July, in Strasbourg, the European Parliament adopted a resolution along these lines, developed by Martin Kastler (EPP, Germany), by 557 votes to 33 and 15 abstentions. The EP calls on the EU and its member states to seize the opportunity to develop concrete action and develop innovative solutions and policies in this field. Age-management strategies related to employment and work through specific activities should therefore be among future priorities. (G.B./transl.jl)
