Public procurement - guide for implementng social criteria

Brussels, 07/07/2011 (Agence Europe) - The Employers' Platform of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) and the European Federation of Public Service Unions (FSESP) have issued a press release in which they welcome the arrival of the guide to socially responsible public procurement (SRPP) published by the Commission as a tool to explain how social criteria should be applied to public document procedures and contribute to socially responsible purchasing.

The CEMR and FSESP point out that in the context of the current revision of the rules on public procurement, if the more socially responsible public procurement policy and best practice of the guide were adopted, benefits such as employment opportunities, collective agreements, universal access to services and fair trade would be felt throughout the life of a procurement contract.
