News of the sudden death of former Ambassador Silvio Fagiolo, who was Italy's Permanent Representative to the European institutions at the start of the 21st century, has saddened Brussels and Rome, where President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano has expressed his sorrow, and other European capitals. An ardent supporter of Europe and deeply concerned for its future and that of Italy, Ambassador Fagiolo had just written his final article for AffarInternazionali, the online magazine of the Istituto Affari Internazionali, entitled “Italy at breaking point”, a no-holds-barred assessment of Italy's foreign policy.
