29/06/2011 (Agence Europe) - President of Campania joins Commissioner Potoènik. Stefano Caldoro, President of Campania, the region around Naples - a city still submerged under its own rubbish, shares the concerns of European Environment Commissioner Janez Potoènik with regard to the waste situation in his region. Caldoro, who was in Brussels on Wednesday 29 June to back the opening of an EU office in Naples said at a press conference: “Campania as a region is a model in the south of Italy for waste sorting. The problem is the city of Naples, where responsibility lies with the mayor”, where the recently elected Luigi de Magistris represents the Italy of Values party which is in opposition to the People of Freedom party of Caldoro and of Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. Caldoro has even criticised the attitude of the Lega Nord, a party in government which he says does not want a national solution to the problems of Naples and Campania. (G.Ba/Gp/transl.rt)
