30/05/2011 (Agence Europe) - Mergers: Kokerei Prosper/ArcelorMittal. On 27 May, the European Commission cleared the proposed acquisition by German company ArcelorMittal Bremen Gmbh, a subsidiary of the Luxembourg steel group ArcelorMittal S.A., of direct control of Kokerei Prosper, a German producer of coke and coke by-products, by way of purchase of assets. ArcelorMittal Bremen, along with other competing steel manufacturers, is a customer of Kokerei Prosper. The Commission's investigation showed that ArcelorMittal's competitors will continue to have access to coke from Kokerei Prosper even after the operation, notification of which was submitted to the Commission on 18 April. The transaction does not give rise to competition concerns on this market or on the market for coke by-products (crude coal tar and crude benzene) supplied by Kokerei Prosper to other clients outside the steel sector.
