Brussels, 27/05/2011 (Agence Europe) - A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry in Paris said on Thursday 26 May that the situation of the civilian population in areas under Gaddafi control was worsening by the day. He asserted that information available and eye witness accounts from Libyans who have been able to escape show the real climate of terror and the reign of arbitrary over the inhabitants of those regions inflicted by Gaddafi's henchmen. The Contact Group, composed of countries engaged in the conflict on the basis of a UN Security Council resolution, must “step up pressure on the Gaddafi regime in order to bring to an end the suffering of the people still under the yoke of Gaddafi”, he said, adding: “We fully support all the diplomatic efforts begun, especially those by the United Nations representative, Al Khatib”.
