Brussels, 27/05/2011 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 27 May, the Telecommunications Council held an exchange of views and adopted conclusions on critical information infrastructure protection (CIIP), after the ministerial conference organised by the Hungarian presidency on 14 and 15 April this year, on the basis of a European Commission communication. The Commission CIIP communication takes stock of the results achieved since the adoption of the CIIP action plan in 2009, launched to strengthen the security and resilience of information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure. It sets out the next steps for action at EU and international levels. In its conclusions, the Council underlines the importance of setting up national/governmental computer emergency response teams (CERTs), of developing national cyber incident contingency plans, and of organising national cyber security exercises. European cooperation must be fostered between member states for developing incident cooperation mechanisms between member states, organising European-wide exercises and promoting dialogue on issues relating to ICT security. International cooperation in the field of the global network is also very important, with a view to establishing strategic partnerships with third countries. (I.L./transl.jl)
