26/05/2011 (Agence Europe) - Health Action International wants more attention paid by the Commission to the public health dimension. Contributing to the debate opened by the European Commission in its consultation on the common strategic framework for research and innovation, Health Action International called for more attention to be paid to the public health dimension. It describes as disappointing the Commission's response to the challenges of demographic ageing which will weigh heavy on pubic health budgets and European health systems. HAI hopes that the feedback from the consultation will lead the Commission to take greater account of public interest perspectives and to reframe the objectives of medical research, the first goal of which must be improving public health rather than profit.
