During visit, Stefan Füle calls for reform

Brussels, 03/05/2011 (Agence Europe) - The commissioner for enlargement and neighbourhood policy, Stefan Füle, had meetings with Jordan's senior leaders on 1-2 May. He met King Abdullah II, the president of the Senate, Al Masrin and the foreign affairs minister, Nasser Judeh. He also had meetings with representatives from civil society. In a press release published on Tuesday 3 May, Commissioner Füle welcomed Jordan's efforts to implement reform and underlined “the willingness of the EU to continue supporting Jordan in addressing the current economic and financial challenges the country is facing”. The commissioner explained that the more a country reformed, the more aid it could expect from the EU. Füle travelled to Egypt afterwards, where he had meetings on 2-3 May with members of the government and civil society. According to a press release published on 3 May, the commissioner expressed “the support of the European Union to the Egyptian people and their legitimate request for democracy, human rights and a better future”.
