Implementing regulation on fisheries control system

Brussels, 02/05/2011 (Agence Europe) - The implementing regulation of 8 April 2011 laying down detailed rules for the implementation of Council Regulation (EC) No 1224/2009 establishing a Community control system for ensuring compliance with the rules of the common fisheries policy was published in Official Journal of the EU L112 of 30 April 2011.

This regulation provides details on: - the electronic logbook: masters of EU fishing vessels of 12 metres length overall or more have to record logbook information by electronic means; - recreational fishing: these activities must be conducted in a manner compatible with the objectives of the common fisheries policy; - weighing of fishery products on systems approved by the competent authorities; - surveillance programmes to establish the tasks of control observers on board fishing vessels; - inspections carried out by EU inspectors: rules are required regarding the appointment of Union inspectors, their tasks and obligations; - the points system for serious infringements; - financial measures: the Commission may, under certain conditions, suspend and cancel payment of financial assistance from the European Fisheries Fund; - deduction of quotas in cases of failure by member states to comply with the rules on stocks subject to multiannual plans.
