27/04/2011 (Agence Europe) - 4th international seminar on rail safety and security. The International Union of Railways (UIC) held the 4th international seminar on rail safety and security in Ifrane (Morocco) on 21 and 22 April, in cooperation with the Moroccan Office National des Chemins de fer and its French equivalent, the ONCF. Attended by over 200 participants from Africa, Asia and Europe, the seminar mainly covered aspects of rail safety and security linked in particular to human factors, the development of technology and the setting in place of necessary standards and regulations. In the same field, the UIC plans this year to: - present research projects on safety at the Protectrail day in Paris (4/05); - hold a safety congress focusing on technology in Rome (22-23/09); - and a general congress on the theme of safety in Slovakia (June or September 2012). High speed rail is another area on which UIC focuses, and a seminar (18-19/05, Prague) and congress (11-13/07 2012 in Philadelphia) will cover this theme. (A.By./transl.jl)
