Brussels, 15/04/2011 (Agence Europe) - The fisheries agreement between the EU and Morocco did not bring value for money. According to the Moroccan press, a confidential report carried out by French firm Oceanic Développement at the request of the European Commission has found that neither of the two contracting parties - and, hence, the European taxpayer - has seen a sizeable return.
According to the reports carried in the Moroccan press, “catches by the 100 European vessels contributed to the overfishing of Moroccan natural resources”. For the EU, the problem is that “every euro spent by the EU under this agreement brought a return of only 83 cents”. Similarly, “the agreement led to the creation of only 170 new jobs in Europe”.
