Brussels, 13/04/2011 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 12 April, the European Parliament's industry committee adopted two draft reports on European research. The first report, by Jean-Pierre Audy (EPP, France), makes an assessment of the EU's seventh framework programme for R&D, recommending a reduction in red tape as one of the big battles to be won. He also recommends including a geographic location criterion to ensure more harmonious location of research within the EU. In a press release, Audy says it is time to consider an EU defence industry research programme. The second report, on innovation, recommends the introduction of one-stop-shops in the member states to help innovative companies learn about and access sources of EU funding. Judith A. Merkies (S&D, the Netherlands) said the EU should increase the EIB's funding mechanism through risk-sharing to encourage companies to start up. (M.B./transl.fl)
