Brussels, 08/04/2011 (Agence Europe) - In response to the numerous upheavals in air passenger traffic last year, the European Commission is expected, on Monday 11 April, to present a series of measures aimed at reassessing and clarifying legislation on air passengers' rights. The legislation will above all cover the application of relevant standards, and provide a first analysis since the air passengers' rights regulation was adopted in 2004.
The raft of measures is mainly expected to aim at closing the gap at European level between the interpretation of existing rules in areas such as carrier liability, including when flights involve several airlines, re-routing arrangements and compensation. The Commission will also seek to strengthen application of these rules throughout Europe. The package will include: - a communication on implementing the regulation concerning assistance to passengers refused boarding, cancellations or delays in flights (Regulation 261/2004); - a communication analysing implementation of the regulation on the rights of passengers with reduced mobility (1107/2006), and a working document summarising the data on a number of key trends, especially the number of flights concerned by passengers' rights over the period 2007-2009.
