08/04/2011 (Agence Europe) - Catherine Ashton pursues coordination with NATO. EU High Representative Catherine Ashton and NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen are expected to discuss the situation in Libya on Monday 11 April at their annual meeting, especially with a view to coordinating action taken by the two organisations in support of humanitarian assistance (see related article). Last Friday, the EU approved a decision allowing the mission to be launched, including with deployment of European ships off the coast of Libya (see EUROPE 10350). Ashton will also attend the informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Berlin on 14 and 15 April. This will be preceded by the first meeting, in Doha, of the international contact group that will be seeking solutions for putting an end to the conflict in Libya. (A.By./transl.jl)
