06/04/2011 (Agence Europe) - EU sanctions applied by other countries. The sanctions against the Gaddafi regime in Libya put in place by the EU (freezing of assets, visa ban, embargo on arms sales) whether those agreed to comply with UN Security Council Resolutions 1970 and 1973 or additional “independent” measures - are also being applied by several applicant countries and potential candidates for accession to the EU. Among official candidates, Croatia, Montenegro and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) have already taken or will shortly take the same measures as the EU. Turkey, which has been negotiating its accession since 2005, has not, however, adopted the European measures. Serbia, Albania, Liechtenstein, Norway, Moldova and Georgia have already taken or will take measures identical to those of the EU. In a press release on 6 April, the EU welcomes these moves.
