Hearing on new EU budget

Brussels, 18/03/2011 (Agence Europe) - The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will hold a hearing in Brussels on Monday 21 March on the EU budget review and proposals for the next multiannual financial framework. European Budget Commissioner Janusz Lewandowski has been invited to address the meeting.

The positions of the various European institutions will be presented by: Enikö Györi (Council, Hungarian Presidency), Salvador Garriga Polledo (EPP, Spain, European Parliament), Marjorie Jouen (Committee of the Regions), Michael Smyth (EESC). Henri Malosse and Gérard Dantin will present the EESC draft opinion. The hearing will provide an opportunity for an exchange of views among the key players (European social partners, NGOs, etc) ahead of the preparation of the next multiannual financial framework. In organising this hearing, the EESC wanted to ensure that organised civil society would take part in the debate on this issue. For information, go to: http://www.eesc.europa.eu (G.B./transl.rt)
