18/03/2011 (Agence Europe) - European trade unions and private companies. The Hungarian plan to allow companies to register abroad in order to avoid having to allow workers to become involved in their management cannot be accepted, explains the secretary general of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), John Monks, adding that the Hungarian Presidency of the EU should ensure that negotiations on the European private company lead to genuine worker participation rights. Companies should not decide where to have their headquarters simply in order to keep workers out of decision-making, he says, explaining that EU rules should support worker rights in Europe and back social Europe, rather than undermining social Europe by allowing companies to withdraw from the industrial relations in place in their country.
