25/02/2011 (Agence Europe) - First “African Television Day”. On Sunday 27 February, seven private television companies of Francophone Africa will, for the first time ever, offer a 100% African viewing schedule, “ real panorama of African production”, the Commission announced on Friday 25 February in a press release. This Day will be held during the pan-African festival of cinema and television of Ouagadougou (FESPACO), the largest cinema and television festival in sub Saharan Africa. The scheduling will potentially reach 100 million television viewers in Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Congo Brazzaville, Niger and Senegal. The project is funded by the ACP Films programme to support the ACP cinema and audiovisual sector, funded by the EU and implemented by the secretariat of the ACP States Group. The “African Television Day” initiative was proposed by Canal France International (CFI) as part of its cooperation mission with the media.
