18/02/2011 (Agence Europe) - EU pushes Nabucco and ITGI to merge. According to an industrial source quoted by Reuters, the European Commission is pushing for a merger of the gas pipeline project Nabucco with the Interconnector Turkey Greece Italy project (ITGI). “Talks are underway at political level (…), but there is no discussion within the consortium on the subject”, said a representative of the conglomerate responsible for building Nabucco, which is made up of six shareholders: ÖMV of Austria, the Hungarian MOL, Romania's Transgaz, Bulgargaz of Bulgaria, Turkey's Botas and the German RWE. A representative of the Italian energy company Edison, a shareholder in ITGI, intimated this week that the projects may move closer together, as just one network would be enough to supply Europe.
