14/02/2011 (Agence Europe) - ICEM launches United States of Europe campaign. The ICEM (Italian Council of the European Movement) has just launched a campaign for the United States of Europe. On Monday 14 February, marking the 27th anniversary of the adoption of the treaty setting up the European Union (“Spinelli project”), it published a policy document which also contains its programme of action until 2014. ICEM sources point out that their document had been presented early by the president of the Italian Republic Giorgio Napolitano at an audience in the Quirinale on Friday 4 February and that their ideas have already received positive responses both in Italy and in wider Europe. It is hoped the campaign will lead to concrete decisions before the next European elections in 2014, when Italy will hold the rotating presidency of the EU Council of Ministers, in the second half of the year.
