Brussels, 28/01/2011 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 28 January, the European Commission launched a public consultation, to continue until 13 April 2011, on its document entitled Taxation problems that arise when dividends are distributed across borders to portfolio and individual investors and possible solutions.
This consultation comes as part of broader work by the Commission to assess the extent to which, and under what conditions, taxation can be an obstacle to the development of the single market, and to seek solutions to these problems. This particularly applies to taxation and reimbursement of revenue at source and payments of dividends in a cross-border context, as these operations can give rise to double taxation or discriminatory treatment.
Interested parties (states, businesses, individuals, international organisations and NGOs, research institutes, etc) are therefore called upon to express their opinions and provide information which could help the Commission to decide how to proceed.
