Brussels, 26/01/2011 (Agence Europe) - The president of the European economic and social committee (EESC) has called on agriculture ministers from Europe and the whole world to join civil society activists in discussions about trade and global level food security. Last Saturday, during roundtable talks at the international summit of agriculture ministers in Berlin, Staffan Nilsson highlighted the necessity of involving farmers, consumers and other society actors in the discussions aimed at identifying sustainable solutions to food security problems.
These international ministerial roundtable talks on agriculture took place in Berlin during the world food and agriculture forum (20-22 January2011). At this event, Staffan Nilsson urged ministers to conclude the Doha Round negotiations at the WTO, improve market access for developing countries and increase production capacity, indicated the EESC in a press release. http://www.eesc.europa.eu ).
