Brussels, 06/01/2011 (Agence Europe) - All EU member states are in the process of suspending publication of information on beneficiaries of CAP (common agricultural policy) payments, a European Commission source confirmed on Thursday 6 January. This comes after the ruling by the Court of Justice of the EU, handed down on 9 November (cases C-92/09 and C-93/09, details on EUROPE 10253), which partially invalidated the legal basis for the publication of information on beneficiaries of CAP payments (shared management). The Commission has also suspended its internet page containing this information and said that it wants to comply with the Court judgment. The Commission might, at a later date, bring forward a proposal seeking to end the requirement to publish the names of natural persons receiving agricultural aid, retaining only the requirement to publish the names of companies (legal persons). At the start of November last year, the Court decided that, on the grounds of privacy, it was illegal to publish personal information on farmers who received aid from European funds. (L.C./transl.rt)
