Brussels, 26/11/2010 (Agence Europe) - Two proposals for improving European sports policy were presented last week during a hearing of the culture and education committee at the European Parliament, in Brussels. Michele Colucci, of Italy, who teaches sports law at Tilburg University (Netherlands), put his ideas to MEPs and delegations from FIFA, UEFA and the IOC. Colucci, who is a member of the Dispute Resolution Chamber of FIFA, suggests the creation of a European Observatory “which would systematically monitor the national legislation and the sports regulations of all member states and all national federations”, and the creation of an Erasmus sports programme. According to Colucci, the Observatory would contribute to the exchange of best practice and Erasmus would allow amateur athletes to be trained in clubs and federations of other countries, the creation of schools or sports academies, and the exchange of volunteers at national or international sports events. Both proposals, which were appreciated by many of the MEPs, may be discussed in the context of the White Paper on sports which will shortly be published. (Gp/transl.jl)
