Brussels, 24/11/2010 (Agence Europe) - More than 250 young delegates took part last weekend in the European Youth Forum (EYF) General Assembly 2010, hosted by the Ukrainian Youth Forum. The General Assembly is held every two years. It adopted the EYF Work Plan for the next two years, which focuses on volunteering, youth rights and the building of a stronger youth civil society. Delegates also discussed and adopted two policy papers on global governance and on poverty and young people, and also a position paper on Youth in Action, the European Commission's new youth programme, describing their views on the new Youth in Action cycle after 2014. There was a European Youth Dialogue debate between young people and political representatives focusing on the role of youth in democratic development and the promotion of human rights in Europe. At the meeting, Peter Matjašiè was elected President of the EYF. Stressing the importance of young people's involvement and volunteering, he highlighted the most urgent needs for young people in Europe - jobs, good quality education, ensuring funding at European level for youth organisations and youth-led projects, and full recognition of non-formal education and of youth organisations as providers of skills.
