24/11/2010 (Agence Europe) - Less paperwork for fishing farming companies. With its adoption, by the massive majority of 638 votes to 16, with 11 abstentions, of the report by João Ferreira (GUE/NGL, Portugal) on the use of alien and locally absent species, the European Parliament gave first reading approval to a text seeking to relieve operators in the sector of some administrative formalities. The Commission is proposing that introductions and translocations of alien species involving the use of closed aquaculture facilities be exempted from the requirement to hold a permit. The amendment adopted is in line with the agreement reached with the EU Council of Ministers. (L.C./transl.rt)
