Brussels, 27/10/2010 (Agence Europe) - The Director General of the European Commission in charge of agriculture and rural development, Jean-Luc Demarty of France, will replace Ireland's David O'Sullivan at the head of DG Trade at the Commission. Both of these appointments were announced on Wednesday 27 October by the European Commission.
Jean-Luc Demarty, 58, has led DG Agriculture and Rural Development since 2006. He will replace David O'Sullivan, who has been appointed Chief Operating Officer of the new European External Action Service (EEAS), from 1 January 2011. José Manuel Silva Rodriguez, 61, former Director General at DG Research, will take over from Demarty. José Manuel Silva Rodriguez is very familiar with this position, as he was Director General of DG Agriculture between 1999 and 2005.
In addition, the "mobility" package provides for: - the transfer of Nadia Calviño from the Directorate General for Competition (where she is currently Deputy Director General) to DG Internal Market and Services: -the promotion of Gert-Jan Koopman, currently Director in DG Economic and Financial Affairs, the post of Deputy Director General at DG Competition, where he will be responsible for State aid policy.
