Brussels, 27/10/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 27 October, the European Commission cleared the proposed acquisition by Lamb Weston/Meijer (LWM), which produces and sells deep-frozen potato products and dehydrated potato products, of a controlling stake in the capital of another producer of chilled or frozen potato products, Frisch & Frost (F&F) of Austria, currently controlled at 100% by RWA International Holding (Austria). After the operation, notified on 21 September 2010, LWM and RWI (RWA International Holding) will jointly control F&F. The Commission's investigation revealed that, after the transaction, the market for the supply of deep-frozen potatoes would remain competitive as the overlaps between the parties' activities are limited (with LWM and F&F operating essentially in different geographical areas) and there is the presence of other, well-established suppliers in the European Economic Area. The Commission therefore cleared the acquisition. (F.G./transl.jl)
