Brussels, 26/10/2010 (Agence Europe) - The Foreign Affairs Council of 25 October charged EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton, working in association with the Commission to “draw up a strategy for the Sahel”. This strategy, which ministers expect for the “beginning of next year”, will show how the EU can make better use of the means and instruments at its disposal to “foster security, stability, development and good governance in the Sahel-Saharan strip”, conclusions adopted by the Council on Monday state. To this end, the EU wants to cooperate closely with the countries of the region, the UN, the African Union and other international partners, the conclusions say. (H.B./transl.rt)
