Luxembourg, 18/10/2010 (Agence Europe) - Meeting in Luxembourg on Friday 15 October, the transport ministers of the EU gave the European Commission a mandate to negotiate a global agreement in the field of air transport with Brazil. Like the "Open Skies" agreement concluded with the United States, this agreement should make it possible to bring civil aviation legislation into line between the EU and Brazil. It also aims to liberalise traffic and investments in the aviation sector.
The Council also adopted without debate the conclusion of two other agreements in the field of aviation, previously negotiated with Brazil. The first relates to the safety of civil aviation. The second is a cross-cutting aviation agreement, which aims to bring the bilateral aviation agreements concluded between Brazil and certain member states of the EU into line with European legislation. It also approved without debate: - the conclusion of a Euro-Mediterranean agreement on aviation services between the EU and Jordan; - the agreement, which was negotiated in spring of this year, creating joint air space between the EU and Georgia.
