Brussels, 14/10/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 15 October, in Brussels, the Council of the Notariats of the European Union (CNUE) is holding a joint conference with the European Commission on the theme of international successions in Europe. Many personalities from the worlds of politics, law and academia will attend, including Viviane Reding, Vice-President of the European Commission, and Stefaan De Clerck, Belgian Justice Minister. With this conference, the Notaries of Europe and the Commission plan to make a new contribution to discussions underway on the proposal for a regulation on international successions, presented in October 2009 (EUROPE 9998 and 9999). Each year, 450,000 successions with an international dimension are opened in Europe, amounting to a sum in excess of €123 billion. During two round table discussions, participants will discuss the European Commission's draft regulation, which should enable the rules applicable to cross-border successions to be clarified to the benefit of citizens. Thus, the Commission's proposal foreseeing the introduction of a European certificate of succession will be examined. The session will be chaired by Benoît Cusin, Assistant Editor of Agence Europe. The afternoon session will provide an opportunity for the Notaries of Europe to present their European projects. The internet site http://www.successions-europe.eu gives factsheets on succession law in 27 European countries available to citizens in 23 languages. Finally, the ENRWA (European Network of Registers of Wills Association) will reveal the content of a partnership project with the Commission for interconnection of registers of wills in Europe.
