Aid paid to Danish and Spanish workers

Brussels, 07/10/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 7 October in Brussels, the European Parliament adopted by a very large majority three reports by Barbara Matera (EPP, Italy) relating to the activation of the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund, following redundancies in Spain and Denmark. This will involve €8.9 million to 1,010 workers made redundant at the Danish Danfoss company in the equipment and machines manufacturing sector. 139 people also lost their jobs in the Linak A/S (mechanical and electronic machines sector) and will receive total aid of €1.213 million. Aid in Spain (€1.844 million) will target Galicia, where 82 companies in the textile and clothing sector made redundancies between 1 March 2009 and 30 June 2009. The Council of Ministers of the EU's calendar was also adopted without debate on the same day. Decisions will allow for these 3 aid packages from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund to be activated. The Commission will therefore proceed to making payments. (L.C./transl.fl)
