Agreement on lifting of visa requirement for Brazilians

Luxembourg, 07/10/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 7 October, the Council of the EU endorsed two agreements with Brazil to enable Europeans and Brazilians to travel to the other territory without a visa for short stays (of up to three months). One of the deals covers the holder of ordinary passports, and the other covers the holders of diplomatic passports or people on official business. Both agreements mark the end of negotiations that kicked off in April 2008 and mark particular progress for Estonia, Cyprus, Malta and Latvia, whose passport-holders used to have to obtain a visa before they could travel to or through Brazil (see EUROPE 10197). The United Kingdom and Ireland are not covered by these agreements. (B.C./transl.fl)
