France to send full response to Commission to avoid proceedings for infringing free circulation rights

Luxembourg, 07/10/2010 (Agence Europe) - The French government will be sending a full response to the European Commission before 15 October to avoid the launch of infringement proceedings over application of EU law on the free circulation of individuals. A source close to the French government commented on the fringes of the meeting of EU interior ministers in Luxembourg that France would be sending a full response, as full possible by the mid-October deadline, although it should not be necessary to send in all the thousands of documents requested. Late last month, the European Commission threatened to send France a warning letter (the first stage in infringement proceedings) for failure to transpose the 2004 EU directive on the free circulation of Europeans (see EUROPE 10226).
